The shell you don’t want to leave after college
Today I had the opportunity to visit my university campus. I graduated back in 2019 fall. As I was walking around campus, I was thinking about this.
I was thinking about how during our university life we are in a shell. We always feel protected. We at least know what’s coming in the next few years till graduation. We have expectations, hopes, and dreams. We have a routine to follow and an invisible guidebook to look at. That helps us live during those years. But as soon as you graduate you have to leave that shell. You have to leave it reluctantly. You come into a new world, a new space. But the difference is there’s no shell to protect you. There’s no guidebook to follow. You are in control. Which sounds great but is actually scary. You call the shots. That’s what you always wanted as a kid, but now that you are actually experiencing it, you miss that shell. You miss that routine life. You miss that invisible guidebook. You want to go back to the shell. But the reality is that you have to move on. You have to make your own decisions and protect yourself with your own shield instead of hiding behind a shell. You have to take control and no matter how much you want it, there’s no going back.
