The Erik Ten Hag Era starts
Yesterday was a dreadful day for a United fan. But the silver lining was that the season was over and we could just forget it.
Before talking about anything else, let’s sum up last season. Thank God it’s last season now. While Liverpool and City gave the league one of the best finishes to the league, we tried our best to get the conference league but Moyes disappointed us again and sent us to Europa League. Nothing went well this season although we were so hopeful before it started. Everything that could go wrong, went wrong. The sacking of Ole and then Ralf’s interim reign. The media fiascos and the dressing room issues. It was a new low for the club and its fans. It’s been almost a decade since SAF left and we still don’t know where we are going. But as United fans, we can just hope and wait for the light at the end of the tunnel.
Maybe Erik Ten Hag is that light. He had his first press conference today. You can’t read much into a press conference. Although I already see some people are really hopeful thanks to how he spoke to the press. But that is just one part of the job. This is probably one of the hardest jobs in the world and the good thing is that he chose this. He took up the challenge. The way his career was going he could go to any other club. But he decided to in a way put his career on the line. He himself said that he doesn’t think this is a risk, but we all know it is. The plethora of managers that came after SAF, all tried and failed. Most of them were people with a history of winning titles, except Moyes and Ole. None of that worked. But what has been clear over the past decade is the fact that the club was run without any proper football planning. It was more of a business for the owners. Yes, they did spend a lot of money but a lot of those decisions were based on profits and less on football.
I hope Erik takes his time and brings a change. At this point, I just want to see good football from United. I want to see the players giving their 100% and playing for the badge. If he can get the players to do that then the wins will come.
