DJI Osmo action in 2022: best value action camera
Although I have written a few other blog posts about tech, I usually don’t plan these. Maybe I should. I love all things tech and my very first blog website was about tech. So, you might see a lot more tech blogs in the future.
Today I want to talk about action cameras. Specifically about the DJI Osmo action. An action camera that was released back in 2019. But in 2022 I think this is the best value action camera in the market.
Firstly, let’s talk about why I am writing about this camera now. For the past week, I have been researching a compact camera. A point and shoot to carry with me to do street photography and maybe vlogs. But the photography aspect was the main. So even though I had the DJI Osmo action, I needed something better for photography. The best bet was ZV-1 and I am currently looking for a good deal on it.
But if I get the ZV-1 why would I still need the DJI Osmo action. Let’s go back to when I got this camera. I got this back in February to replace my DJI Pocket 2 and the Insta 360 Go 2. It didn’t make sense carrying 2 cameras. I loved the pocket 2 but the problem was in the quality of the image. It offered a lot of features but I never got a clear sharp image unless it was a bright sunny day. Other than that the ease of use, the stable footage, and the audio quality was great. But I needed a better image quality and also needed something for my runs and on-the-go vlog shots. I also loved the Insta 360 Go 2, it was a fun camera to use. But just like the Gopro the software experience wasn’t great. A lot of times my footage got corrupted. I looked at Gopros at that time but most reviews talked about how unstable they were. Yes, the new gopros are great and they are probably the best in the market alongside the insta360 ones. But a lot of people complained about the software and the unreliability. On the other hand, the more I looked at the reviews of the Osmo action the more, I saw people praise its software and how dependable it was. I also looked at Insta 360 cameras but they were too gimmicky. Too many moving parts.
Finally, I decided on the Osmo action and the prices were too good to ignore. You can get one with a bunch of accessories for around $300. That’s a great deal compared to the competition. I have been using it for the past 4 months and I can happily say that it easily replaced both the cameras. It gave me a better image than the DJI Pocket 2 while being equally stable. The mic isn’t as great but you can add a shotgun mic if you want. It also gave me the versatility of the Insta 360 Go 2. I could use it for my running videos and POV shots. Although the Go 2 was an easier camera for those situations, Osmo action isn’t bad. The new DJI Action camera will do a better job as a Go 2 replacement but then again I don’t like moving parts. With the osmo action it’s just one unit. I can carry it everywhere, have a few spare batteries and I am good to go. Great software, great image and great stability.
If you are someone looking for a budget action camera I highly recommend the osmo action.
