Feeling like a tourist being an ex-pat
Being an expatriate in Japan is fun. Being an expatriate anywhere in the world is fun but it is relative. Since I am from Bangladesh, relative to life in Bangladesh, life in Japan is fun.
But when you are an expatriate you miss out on feeling like a tourist. After being seven years in Japan, I miss the feeling of being a tourist. I should feel more like a tourist. I haven’t traveled as much as I should have. I couldn’t financially. Hopefully, I will soon. I think that will give me more chances to feel like a tourist.
Today was one of those days where I felt like a tourist. I went to Asakusa for the first time. It is one of the most popular places for tourists in Tokyo. As soon as I reached Asakusa, I could see the other tourists. Asakusa was packed. Most of them were tourists. It felt great. After a few moments, I started feeling like one.
Taking pictures. Getting my pictures taken. Being curious about every little thing.
It felt great. I got to explore the area. But as soon as I got back to the station I felt like an expatriate again. It was short-lived, but it was fun.
