Why do we let our minds grow old?
It’s almost 1:00 am. I should be off to bed. But I made a commitment. Write one blog post each day no matter how short it is. So here I am back writing my entry for the day.
Today was a beautiful day. I visited Nonhoi Park here in Toyohashi. It’s a single location but four different attractions. It has a zoo, a museum, a botanical garden, and a kid’s amusement park. Since I don’t want this blog to be a journal entry I won’t go on much about my day. Let’s talk about my experience at the amusement park.
The amusement park was a kid’s amusement park. All of the rides were really short and fun enough for kids. They were big enough for adults to get on but mostly for parents to accompany their kids. But in spite of that, since adults were allowed I went in and had a great time. Although I took 2 seats on the roller coaster the other rides were an easy fit.
While enjoying my time there I thought about this question. “Why do we let our minds grow old?” I understand how biologically our physical body needs to grow older by the years. But why do we let our minds grow old as we go further in our lives? By old, I mean how our mindset completely shifts as the years go on. If you are someone who is in their 30s, think about the time when you were 20. Do you look at things the same way as before? I am not saying you can’t grow up and become mature. That is an important part of becoming an adult. But becoming an adult doesn’t mean that you stop enjoying the little things in life. It doesn’t mean you have to shy away from getting on the kid’s roller coaster because other ‘adults’ are looking at you.
One of the qualities we had as kids were the tendency to commit to things and do things just for fun. As adults, we tend to lose this ability to do things just for fun. When was the last time you did something just for fun? You can reach me on my Instagram @rash__eeq or just comment here.
