What makes a good story?

Being a aspiring rather or video director stories are important to me. They are an important part of the industry I am interested in. But in spite of that I still don’t have a good grasp on story.
I always keep on thinking what makes a good story. I consume a variety of content every single day and most of them depend on a story for the consumer. I listen to podcasts that have a story, watch videos that have a story or read books that have a story. Stories are an important part of any culture. But I still can’t figure out how to tell a good story.
Recently I have been binge watching Seinfeld and I noticed how they tell stories. Although they talk about the show being about nothing, there is still a purpose behind the show. The main purpose for the show is to be funny. As long as the events of the episode are funny, they are in the episode. That was the thought process behind the writing by Larry David and Seinfeld. That is why in many episodes you will multiple narratives. One episode has different layers but not all layers are resolved. Normally you would think that a story has a beginning, a middle, and a end. But in Seinfeld many stories begin but not all are resolved. Some just serve the purpose of adding to the other stories or just being funny. They stuck to their core theme of being funny.
Learning about this from Seinfeld makes me question more about stories. What makes a good story? What makes a good video story? What makes a good movie story? So many questions but not many answers. I can’t get the answers form others. I need to find it by myself. I need to find my own way of telling stories. Currently, I am kind of lost. I am thinking too much. Maybe some day I will have my own way of telling a story. Maybe someday I will resolve this story.
