Watching a live jazz performance for the first time

When I was in Bangladesh, one thing I wish I did was attending live music events. I never got the opportunity because I was a different person back home. I wasn’t comfortable being around people or attending events. I had a unique lack of confidence which is completely opposite to how I am now.
This weekend I got the opportunity to attend a live jazz performance for the first time. My colleague Jorge was performing at this local restaurant. He does shows usually in Nagoya but this one was luckily in Toyohashi. So I didn’t want to let this opportunity go. So I decided to attend it.
The event was as soothing as I expected it to be. My relation with music is a bit interesting. I listened to music differently when I was young but as I am getting older I am appreciating the art form a lot more. I am trying to understand the music instead of just listening to it. That is probably one of the reasons why I am trying to learn the piano. I believe learning it will be the best way to immerse myself in the art form.
Anyways back to the show. Jorge and the quartet performed 2 sets of 50 minutes. There was a small crowd of around 10 people which helped me focus on the music. You could really see how much the performers loved playing the music. They looked like they were in a state of flow as they played their instruments. Jorge played the saxophone and he was in the zone. He has been using this same saxophone since he was 14. You could see the passion behind his performance. I also loved that it was Jazz. Jazz at a restaurant always feels good.
As the performance finished I thanked Jorge and the other performers. Hopefully, someday again I will attend another live event. Maybe someday I might perform myself. You never know.
