The power of negativity

I had a really great Saturday. In fact I had a really good start to the year. Nothing much to complain about. But then something really unfortunate happened today. I don't want to talk about what happened but whatever it was it happened because of my mistake.

Here's the thing about negative events, they pack a lot of power. They don't come alone. They drag the power of all the past negative events of your life. While this particular event happened I was there for 30 minutes blaming myself for making such a stupid mistake. I couldn't forgive myself. I was right to be mad at myself but I wasn’t right to drag previous negative experiences. But that's what the power of negativity makes you do. It brought back all the past mistakes I made and made me feel like a good-for-nothing adult. It sucked for those 30 minutes but I let that happen to me. Because the negativity was too powerful.

But I did have a strategy to turn things around. I couldn't manage to avoid the incident but I could react to it better. So I did what I always do when I am stressed, I went for a run. I ran a beautiful run. 6km. 100km up for January. But most importantly I was out of the funnel of negativity. I took all that frustration and let go. I accepted my mistake and made peace with myself. I looked forward to doing what was important next. I also got a lot of ideas for things I wanted to do in the coming days.

Yes, negativity is powerful. But it exists so that it can be triumphed by your positive actions and sometimes you need the worst in order for you to cope with the best.
