Apple just had their September event. Unlike every other year, there wasn’t much hype around the event. Specially because it was their mobile line up this time.
The iPhone has evolved a lot since 2007. But it does go through a few years of dull upgrades before something new.
Up until the iPhone 4 Apple had a different design. The big change came when they released the iPhone 4. Then they stuck with that design for a bit. Then again they changed the design with the iPhone 6 and also brought bigger phones. They stuck with that till the iPhone 8. Then they made huge changes with the iPhone X. That was a great time for the iPhone. They were bringing new things to the smartphone industry. But ever since X the phones have been pretty boring and expected.
This year’s event was another of those dull events. The iPhone 14 has a similar design language to the X. The only upgrades are to the processor and the notch. They are some other quirks but nothing groundbreaking.
Compare to the competitors like Samsung, this is pretty underwhelming. There was nothing new to look forward to. They did have a new watch and AirPods too. But nothing that was new and exciting.
Maybe next year is the year.
