Small steps to build momentum

A few days back I was talking about motivation. I also talked about how motivation follows action. That is what I have been trying to practice.
Last month I had my worst month of running in the whole year. I did less than 30km. I struggled a lot. But this month I wanted to do better.
I could have targeted 100km. I could have set unrealistic expectations. But I decided to take small steps. My goal was to run more days compared to last month.
I took small steps. Did short runs. Finally, I picked up some momentum. I felt better about my runs. I got more confidence. I was finding a new balance. I tried running in the evening last month. That wasn’t helping. I skipped more days. But I switched to running in the morning. This has been a refreshing change. If I wake up on time, it’s not easy to skip. I have fewer excuses. I just wake up, put on my shoes, and head out.
If you are struggling with momentum, start small. Break your goals down into small actionable steps. Then see the tide change.
