Plugged into the matrix-example from Japanese trains

For the past four months, I have been taking the train to work and back. Twice a day. The same route. It’s part of my daily routine now.
One thing I enjoy doing on the train is observing people. I don’t look at them like a stalker, I just observe them as a bystander. I noticed so many interesting people on the train. But one thing is common among everyone on the train. Everyone is plugged into their smartphone.
The train I get on literally has no room for me to stand. It is like that almost every single day. You are squishing against the people near you. There’s no way out. But even in those congested trains, people don’t forget to look at their phones.
A scroll here. A tap there. A swipe here. A click there. Everyone’s attention is on their phone. I am no different. Although I do take the time to observe people. I am also looking at my phone from time to time.
This fascinates me every single day. How one single device shaped human behavior. Everyone is just plugged in. Everyone is in their own world. It’s not far off when people will get on trains with compact VR headsets. No one will be making any social contact. Everyone will be lost in their own worlds.
