My struggles of creating on Youtube

For the year 2021, I tried to be consistent on Youtube. But it always fell through. I tried my best it was really hard for me to figure out a way to create content consistently.
At the beginning of this year, I thought things will get better. I had a video at the end of last year that hit 22k views. It was surprising but it did show me if I planned my content well I could grow on Youtube. Then again my goal wasn’t to grow on Youtube. It was mainly to produce content consistently. To produce enough quantity so that my quality improves. This is something Ali Abdaal talks about in his recent video about Youtube.
So there I was planning to produce Youtube content consistently. That is something I wrote on my goals for this year. But sadly it’s been almost 3 months and I have posted only 5 videos. Last of which was back in February and one of which was a Short. Although I say that I did start this other shorts channel where I post every single day. But that is a place where I just edit my Instagram stories into a video. It doesn’t take much work.
That is exactly what I am trying to find with my main channel. I am trying to find a rhythm and creating a format that I can repeat over and over again. That is something Colin and Samir always talk about. They finally found their format which has made their channel grow like crazy.
I have tons of ideas for videos but I am always looking to make them complex. I watch videos like Matt D’Avella or Peter Mckinnon where they focus so much on quality and put so much behind a single video. You can see the number of shots used in every video. That is something I have been trying to do with my videos. Let’s look at one of those ideas. I have this video I want to make titled ‘Why a fitness watch can be bad for your health.’ This idea has been sitting on my list for a while and the only reason I haven’t got to it is that I have to take a lot of time to plan and execute the shots.
I need to write the script for the video first. After that, I need to plan the shots. Other than the talking head shot there would be B-roll shots of me using a fitness watch. It’s not about just turning on the camera and speaking.
Now you might argue why I am trying to make my videos complex. Why not just turn on the camera and hit record? Because the format I am trying to emulate is a format that is tried and tested. A format that works on Youtube. A highly produced video is great for the niche I am targeting. Not everyone can be Charlie from Penguinz.
So there’s the dilemma I have. I can try and simplify my process. Maybe use stock footage instead of shooting a b-roll myself and just record the talking headshot. Or maybe I should focus on a new format. Maybe I ditch this high production value format because the way my life is going I am not able to produce consistently towards that demand.
I am still not sure. The struggle goes on.
