Casey Neistat Vlog 008

Back with another Casey Vlog. It’s episode 8!
This vlog starts off with the pattern I talked about in the previous blog. Random 10 second part about climbing down stairs. But this is more relatable to the context since the title of the video is climbing fire escapes. After 10 seconds you have the usual title sequence with the text and timelapse.
After that, it’s a close-up shot. I hope you remember what that means. It means that this is an important shot. So listen carefully! He talks about his relationship with sleep.
From seconds 50 it is about the indoor cycle he does that day. He has mostly handheld shots. The sequence ends with him changing his shirt in the middle of the city which is a tripod shot. He then has a few tripod shots of him walking through the city. If you are not a videographer, these shots might seem simple. But these are rather complex. Because for each shot he needs to set the camera, walk back and walk in front of the camera and then come back for the camera.
The next minute is him arriving at his gym where he is not going to record anything. Then going to his office. Some shots inside of the office. Then back to a vlog shot. He talks about his office’s snack problem and brings his coworker Jack into the vlog. They are going to get healthy juice from a nearby store. He is walking and talking but has some locked-off shots where both of them walk by the camera. Again, those shots are time-consuming and somewhat annoying.
He then walks by some people doing marijuana. Talks about why his office smells like marijuana and then he is back inside the office.
The next minute is an intimate part of his life. He takes his friends to meet his baby. He stops featuring his baby later in the vlogs but in the early days, he did show her a bit. It was a nice wholesome part. Then there’s a timelapse and this means a transition or passage of time.
The next part is him getting up on the roof through the fire escape. Here again, he does those shots where he is walking past the camera. These are tougher here since they are narrow stairs. But he still gets the shots. He shows the recording of the timelapse. Finally, a vlog shot to end the vlog.
Honestly speaking this vlog wasn’t that enjoyable. But if you have to be taken into account I have seen all his great vlogs and the bar is super high. So his first vlogs will seem a bit under par but in reality, they are not.
