How long do you celebrate birthdays?

Planning a birthday surprise made me think about birthdays. I thought more than I should have. Why am I thinking about the significance of birthdays? But then I did.
The question that stuck in my mind is the title of this blog. Do we ever stop celebrating birthdays? I think we do. A lot of people I know stop celebrating their own birthdays. But the people around them celebrate it for them.
Take, for example, my dad. My dad isn’t the biggest fan of birthdays. He probably was when he was younger. But right now he is not jumping at the prospect of getting a day older. But we still celebrate his birthday. We get a cake and have a good meal. Take some pictures and make memories.
But on a personal level, most people probably stop thinking about birthdays the older they get. It’s not that fun for everyone. It’s not fun getting old. Getting old means getting closer to death. Sorry about painting a sad picture. But that’s what I think people might be thinking.
I think I would still be celebrating birthdays for myself and the people close to me no matter how old I get. I am still 27. I might have to eat my words later.
