The reason I want an iPad
This blog is mainly to help me make a decision. Being a minimalist I really value whatever purchase I make. I don’t like to make many impulse purchases. I take time to come to a decision. It might seem painful to some but I do enjoy the process.
For the past few months, I have been contemplating a new electronic purchase. I don’t like to own much but tech is something I love to own. In Marie Kondo’s terms, you can say that tech sparks joy in my life. But whenever I purchase something new it’s usually a replacement for something I already have. I have been thinking about changing my smartphone. I currently use a Pixel 6. I love the phone. It’s still going great. But I wanted something more compact that had similar features like the pixel. I run with my phone in my pocket and a compact phone would be a huge convenience. I looked at the options available and the Galaxy Flip series stood out to me.
This led to weeks of research. I watched reviews. I made comparisons. I finally decided that Flip 4 would be a good option. That was supposed to be the end of the story.
But it wasn’t. Ever since I started my new job, I have realized that an iPad would be a great companion and improve my productivity. I regularly have to take notes at work and I also have to maintain a calendar and to-do list. Currently, I use pen and paper. I also have a cheap windows tablet which acts as my display for the calendar and to-do list.
The reason I want an iPad is to replace these two processes. The pen and paper are great but at the rate at which I am taking notes, I will end up wasting a lot of paper. I would rather take them digitally. As for the windows tablet, currently, it’s just sitting there as a display. It doesn’t add much functionality since it’s a low-powered windows tablet. I did buy it as a placeholder to see if I would need a proper tablet. After testing for almost two months I can say a proper tablet like an iPad would boost my productivity a lot.
After coming to this decision it didn’t make much sense to buy a phone. The only annoyance I have with my Pixel 6 is the size. I have been coping with that for the past one year and I think it should be fine to cope with it for a year more. The phone purchase felt more like an impulse and less like a thing I needed.
Thus it threw all my research on the flip 4 down the drain. It’s a great phone that I want at the moment but I don’t need it. I would rather have an iPad that will serve me better at the moment.
Thanks for reading this blog. I just wanted to share how things work in my mind before every purchase. This might sound boring to some or maybe sad. How can someone live like this? Just buy the damn thing. Well for me I enjoy this way. It works for me. Not for everyone.
