The everyday stress is taking more than you think

2 weeks gone of the year just like that. I hope you had a good start to the year. But I hope you stress less each day. Stress is one of the silent killers of everyday life.
I just finished watching season 3 of After Life. Highly recommend anyone to watch the show. It’s a show where you can a lot of life lessons through subtle comedy.
Although I love a lot of different parts of the show, today I want to talk about a scene from Episode 5 Season 3. If you haven’t watched Season 3 please don’t read on.
In this scene, Matt, Lisa’s brother, is in the hospital while Tony is sitting beside him. Matt had a minor heart attack while Matt and Tony were having a game of squash. On the hospital bed, Matt shares how he has tried to stay healthy by eating healthy and staying active all his life while Tony never thought much about his health. Even then Matt seems to have a worse heart condition than Tony. Tony explains that it’s maybe because of all the stress Matt takes. While Tony has all these emotions, he tends to express them. He lets out all the stress he has. On the other hand, Matt has all this pent-up tension that he never lets go. He always seems stressed. This might be one of the reasons he has fallen sick.
This was what I took from the scene. Maybe you might interpret it differently. Let me know what you thought. Anyways back to the point. Ever since I started working on my health and did a bit of research, I have always heard experts talk about how stress impacts our everyday life. I read in books and listened to podcasts where this topic came up a number of times. I personally have seen how stress impacted the health of people around me. Ever since I identified the issue I have tried to make my life more stress-free. And honestly speaking I have seen how it has impacted my physical and mental health. I am living a healthier and happier life.
There’s also a scene at the graveyard towards the end of the episode where Anne quotes Mark Twain,

I have spent most of my life worrying about things that have never happened
— Mark Twain

So no matter what stage you are in life I hope you go towards a life of less stress. Try to enjoy your life and don’t give in to societal pressure. I know it’s easy to say and hard to execute. But if you start working towards it, it will get easier.
