The death of the airport

I haven’t been at the international terminal of airports much recently. The last time I took an international flight was in 2018. The world was quite different compared to what it is now.
Last Sunday I had the chance to visit the international terminal again. Not to fly but to see off. It was a whole different picture.
To me, airports were a special place. They had a special vibe. Airports are the place where some dreams start while others ended. It’s the end of old relationships and start of the new. The tensions around the goodbyes. The emotions. The excitement. There’s always something to feel.
But due to Covid all of that has kind of died down. With so many restrictions on traveling you don’t get to see all those emotions. You don’t see the hugging or the crying. You don’t see the usual excitement. Everyone is tensed and worried.
The whole fun of traveling lost a bit of its charm. I am pretty sure it will be back. But for now, it feels like a slow death.
