Satisfaction of a good hike

It’s hard to explain hiking to someone who has no interest in hiking. It’s similar to selling someone the habit of running. It’s hard for them to understand why would you put your body through all that trouble?
There is a variety of reasons people hike. I can’t speak for everyone but I can share some of the reasons why hiking attracts me.
We, humans, are naturally programmed to overcome challenges. We love the satisfaction of accomplishing something. That’s a dopamine hit every human wants. A hike provides that satisfaction in plenty. You put your body through all that just to reach the peak of the mountain. But unlike other challenges you know what’s at the top of the peak. You have something to look forward to. You have a target and when you reach it you feel the rush in your veins. The climb down is the climb of a winner.
Other than this challenging factor, a hike presents you with the opportunity to connect with nature. You feel one with the mountain as you are climbing it. You can feel the power of the mountain. This natural beauty speaks back to you. Hiking with people is great but solo hikes aren’t bad either. It’s kind of meditative. It’s you, nature and you both are one.
Finally, a hike is a great workout. It’s great for your body, mind, and soul. A hike at least once a month should be the goal.
