My problem with waterproofing phones
Waterproofing phones is very common nowadays. Most phones over that have somewhat flagship specs are waterproof. But I am not necessarily a fan of it.
Yes, waterproofing does help you in that rare moment when you accidentally drop something on your phone. Or drop your phone in the water. But other than that it doesn’t add much to the phone’s functions. It does take a lot out of the phone.
One of the common things that they have impacted is the headphone jack. Most companies have gotten rid of the headphone jacks and the main reason has been waterproofing. This is something most of us are used to nowadays. But still it annoys me when my headphone has no battery and I can’t use a headphone with an audio jack.
The biggest thing that waterproofing has impacted is the removable batteries. Remember those days, you could just take out the battery and replace it with a fully charged one? There was no waiting to get your phone charged. No need for wireless or fast charging. You just had extra batteries. That was super convenient. But due to waterproofing, all the phones are sealed. None of the batteries are removable. That is why companies invest in fast charging.
I am ready to let go of waterproofing for removable batteries. It is easier to be careful using your phone. And it is definitely super convenient to have removable batteries.
