How to not maintain a blog

If you want to terrify a beginner writer, show them a blank page.

It’s 12:53 am. Happy New Year. 2022. It’s hard to think that we are still not in 2020. While 2021 was the best year of my 20s one thing I didn’t manage to maintain was this blog.

“Well that is going to change now”-I said multiple times last year. Wow, that was hard. 2021 is last year now. Since I managed to fail at maintaining a blog I thought why not write a blog about it and start 2022 on the right foot.

It’s 18:48 January 2nd. Guess I failed again. I started to write at the beginning of the year but then as usual I didn’t complete it. Hope that changes this year.

Today we talk about how to not maintain a blog. Something I am an expert at. Here are 3 things you can do that will definitely help you never post on your blog.

  1. Plan:
The first thing you should do is just plan. Plan, plan and do some more planning. That’s what I did with this blog. I kept on planning about what I wanted to write about. I planned topics and themes of blogs that now don’t exist. That was my first mistake and I am trying to redeem that. I took some time at the end of the year and fixed my planning. I decided some themes to write on and no matter what happens I will try to not change those.

  2. Doubt:
The second thing you should do is doubt yourself. This is something every creative deals with. Self-doubt has killed more dreams than anything else and that’s what killed my plans of writing. “I can’t write. I am not a writer. Why should I bother writing?” These are a few lines that were going on forever inside my head. While I wasn’t wrong about the first 2 sentences but I did find an answer to the last question I kept asking myself. I should bother writing because that is the only way I can improve my writing. I wasn’t a good runner and the only way I improved my running was doing it over and over again. So I plan on applying that same philosophy to my writing this year. No matter what is going on around me I will sit down and write a blog post.

  3. Never make time:
The last thing you should do is never make time for writing. This will 100% guarantee success at failing to maintain a blog. While I did the first two points flawlessly I was also a champ at never making time to write. I always like to praise myself for being able to manage my time well but when it came to maintaining my blog I put it in the back seat and never looked back. Never made time for it. So this year instead of making time for it I will write whatever I can in the amount of time I get in my day. Doesn’t matter if it’s 5 minutes of writing or 55min. That’s I did with my running. On my bad days I told myself to go out and run just a km. And guess what? I never ran a km. I always ran. That’s what consistency gives you. It gives you progress.

There you have it. Three great steps to start failing at your blog while I take a first step to finally writing mine. This will probably get read by 0 people in 2022 but maybe in 2023 someone will read it. If you are that someone do reach out and send me a message ‘‘I read it and your writing sucks.” I would really appreciate it.
