Goodbye All- End of Reply All
I took my time, but I finally decided to listen to the final episode of the reply all podcast. It was the first podcast that I became a dedicated fan off and it slowly became my favorite. I binged 100 of their episodes in a few months but then started to take things slowly because I didn’t want to end it all.
But sadly before I could end all the episodes, the podcast itself is ending. I enjoyed so many of their episodes and learned so much about storytelling.
Enough about the sad parts, let’s talk about the great last episode. The episode started off with one of my favorite topics, running! The host Emmanuel talks about his morning run and how he observed this guy who runs at the same time as him. He made some observations and he thought the guy intentionally started running fast whenever Emmanuel got close to him. He thought the guy didn’t let him pass. Finally he decided to talk to him one day. He recorded it for the podcast. Surprisingly, the guy never noticed Emmanuel. He never knew about Emmanuel trying to pass him. Emmanuel articulated the conversation in a very beautiful way. He also talks about how in life we run after things that we will never catch. He relates this incident with how they wanted to record the last episode.
After this part, Alex Goldman talks to his Dad and looks for advice on his future. His Dad actually told him not to take the path toward radio show when Alex was 30 and wanted to change careers. Thank God Alex did and we had him on reply all. The interaction with his dad was beautiful to hear.
Then we had another special guest. It was the mysterious break master cylinder. The guy behind all the great music on the podcast. I loved the sound design on the podcast and most of it was due to the genius of this guy. They gave him the weirdest prompts but he came up with the music that fit the situation. It was great to get to know a bit more about him, although he mostly stayed anonymous.
The ending was also beautifully done by Emmanuel. I listened to it while running. It really helped me get through my run. It also helped me reflect on the show. I learned so much from this show and I hope they do come back in some shape or form in the future. Thank you, Reply All.
