Can you navigate without a digital map?
While driving today I remembered this episode of Joe Rogan with Kevin Hart. I hope I am not wrong but it was probably in that episode. Kevin was talking about how he wants his kids to learn life skills and how being a celebrity and growing up with money isn’t all that easy. He understands how difficult it is for his kids and how it’s his responsibility to help his kids learn life skills.
In one part he talks about the skill of navigating with a physical map. He talks about how we are so dependent on digital maps. How easy it is to navigate anywhere we want with a click of a few buttons. It is a true blessing.
While driving back home from work today I was thinking about this conversation. I use maps every day for my commutes and even when I know the road I still use the map. It just feels natural. I also like to know the exact time I will reach and the traffic on the road. That’s a very convenient thing to have access to.
But what if all that was taken away tomorrow? Would you be able to navigate? I personally would have a hard time. I am too used to the convenience. But I believe I should learn how to navigate with physical maps. It might be a nice change and an interesting challenge to pursue. Maybe someday in the future, I will do a challenge to travel without a digital map.
