শুভ নববর্ষ 1429

Today was the first day of the year back in Bangladesh. It’s the start of 1429 Bangla Year. If you are not from anywhere near the sub-continent you probably don’t know about this new year.
I don’t want to get into the origins of the festival, because I don’t know much about it. But it sure was a festive day back home. The sad thing is that I don’t have many memories with this day just like my peers in Bangladesh.
The new year day in my home wasn’t that festive. Even today when I asked my mum that what are you doing for today, she was like nothing special. It’s not that my parents don’t celebrate festivals. They definitely do. But not the common ones. Maybe they are an odd bunch and that explains why I feel like I am odd.
Anyways, even though I didn’t make much memories with this day, I love hearing the stories from my friends or seeing the festivities online. This day is full of colors, events, food and smiles. Everywhere you go it’s a festive mood. There’s a certain vibe in the atmosphere that pulls you in. Well you can just say it’s like any other new year. It is but it has something more to it.
Maybe someday I will be back home and the stars will align and I will be able to celebrate a new year there. Maybe that day I will come back to this blog and write a better description about the day. But till then,
শুভ নববর্ষ Happy new year.
